John Terry

English Professional Footballer & Captain

John Terry is an English professional footballer, best known for being captain of Chelsea Football Club for over 13 years and captain of the England national team. Most recently he has played and captained for Championship club Aston Villa.

The defender, is Chelsea’s most decorated player, having won five Premier Leagues, four FA Cups, & three League Cups, making him one of the greatest central defenders of his generation. He has made over 713 appearances since his debut in 1998 and an impressive 578 of them as captain, holding the club record for appearances as captain and also the clubs all-time highest scoring defender. In 2007, he became the first captain to lift the FA Cup at the new Wembley Stadium in Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Manchester United. He announced his retirement from international football in September 2012, and in 2017 revealed that he had been signed to Aston Villa as captain.

He has also captained the English national team, making his first debut for the team in 2003 in a friendly against Croatia, winning 3-1. He cemented his place in the England squad by being selected for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, scoring his first goal in a warm-up match against Hungary. He went on to succeed David Beckham as captain for England in 2006, Steve McLaren said, “Choosing a captain is one of the most important decisions a coach has to make. I’m certain I’ve got the right man in John Terry. I’m convinced he will prove to be one of the best captains England has ever had.”

Terry has been the main face for Umbro sportswear brand alongside Michael Owen, and has also appeared in adverts for Samsung and Nationwide.

He supports several charities including being an ambassador for Make-A-Wish Foundation since 2010.

John lives in Surrey with his wife Toni and his twin children Georgie and Summer.
