Jodie Kidd Instrumental In Chancellors decision to freeze Beer tax in Autumn budget

The decision will save thousands of jobs and help protect 1 in 10 pubs from closing

Jodie Kidd has been an instrumental driving force in freezing beer duty in the Chancellor’s Autumn 2018 Budget, helping to save thousands of jobs.

The broadcaster, TV chef, author and Publican, who owns The Half Moon Pub in Kirdford, West Sussex, is a supporter of the ‘Long Live the Local’ campaign and delivered a petition to Downing Street ahead of the Chancellor’s Budget, calling for a cut in beer duty. Jodie was significant in helping the campaign gather over 150,000 signatures, expressing a nationwide concern that one in ten pubs (12%) could close within five years if beer tax was to increase.

Jodie has been working closely with The British Beer Alliance, spearheading their campaign since July this year. A rise in beer tax was planned in the Budget this Autumn and was set to put local pubs and their contribution to communities in jeopardy. The BBA have estimated 3000 jobs have been protected by the freeze.

Jodie Kidd, publican of the Half Moon Kirdford, says: “Local pubs like my own bring people together and are at the heart of communities, however too many are struggling to just keep their doors open due to mounting financial pressures.

“The freeze in beer duty and the business rates relief for smaller pubs announced for this coming year will help steady the ship for some, but our pubs need ongoing relief from devastatingly high beer duty to survive. I urge publicans and pub goers to continue to support the Long Live The Local campaign and make their voices heard”.
